Shivnath's (Ashok Kumar) wife, Leela (Veena), is a selfish landlady who shuns villagers and tolerates them for as long as they pay their dues. Shivnath however, is a kind, generous man who thrives on helping people, much to the chagrin of his wife. She taunts him endlessly and even accuses him of stealing money, and purposely painting her as a villain. But when Leela burns down the huts of poor people to spite him, it is the last straw for Shivnath. He leaves her, but is forbidden from ever visiting his eight-year-old daughter. Years pass and circumstances have lead Shivnath to the jail as a convict. He forms a special bond with the doctor at the jail and learns that the daughter he left years ago is about to be married to the same doctor. Does Shivnath make contact with her? Can a father's love withstand an oath? Aashirwad portrays the emotional journey of a man's life who stands by his principles only to be finally overcome by love for his daughter.
