<p>Oats are a type of pseudo-cereal with great health benefits and are also easy to use in many recipes. Here’s what to keep in mind while making the choice.</p> <p><strong>STEEL-CUT OATS </strong></p> <p>Chewy in texture and nutty in flavour, steel-cut oats are whole, hulled oats cut a few times using steel blades. Thanks to their standout taste, steel-cut oats are a great replacement grain for traditional recipes like oat khichdi or risotto. They are the least processed and take approximately 20 minutes to cook.</p> <p><strong>ROLLED OATS </strong></p> <p>Rolled oats are one of the most common varieties you’ll find in the market. These are oats that have been toasted, hulled, steamed and then rolled. They can absorb a lot of liquid and are used in granola or overnight oat recipes. They take about 15 minutes to cook.</p> <p><strong>QUICK OATS </strong></p> <p>Great for a hot breakfast in a pinch of time, quick or ‘quicker cooking’ oats are ones that have been cut, steamed and rolled into thinner flakes, which ensures they cook faster than the rolled version. They are nutritionally on par with rolled oats but can be cooked in around five minutes.</p> <p><strong>INSTANT OATS </strong></p> <p>Instant oats are generally sold as single-serve pre-flavoured packages that can be microwaved for an instant meal. They are convenient but often include additives that aren’t exactly the healthiest. To be on the safe side, read the ingredient list and opt for a cleaner product.
