Muharram, one of the four sanctified months of the year that marks the beginning of the Islamic year, is remembered for the demise of Hussain Ibn Ali, the grandson of Prophet Muhammad. Fasting on the day of 'Ashura' is Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad. The most favoured fasts, after the fasts of Ramadan, are those of the month of Muharram. While fasting is not obligatory, one who does so of his own will is entitled to great rewards by Allah Almighty.
