Shivnath's (Ashok Kumar) wife Leela (Veena) is a selfish landlady who shuns villagers and tolerates them for as long as they pay their dues. Shivnath however, is a kind, generous man who thrives on helping people, much to the chagrin of his wife. She taunts him endlessly and even accuses him of stealing money and purposely painting her as a villain. But when Leela burns down the huts of poor people to spite him, the last straw is drawn for Shivnath. He leaves Veena and is also forbidden to visit his eight-year-old daughter, Neena. Years pass and circumstances have lead Shivnath to be imprisoned as a convict. He forms a special bond with the doctor at the prison and learns that the daughter he left years ago is about to be married to the same doctor. Does Shivnath contact her? Aashirwad portrays the emotional journey of a man's life who stands by his principles only to be finally overcome by his love for his daughter.
