Endometriosis is a medical ailment that is as common as diabetes, yet people continue to be unaware of this condition. Its estimated that every one in ten women suffers from this illness.

Endometriosis is a condition where tissue similar to the lining of the womb starts to grow in other places, such as ovaries and fallopian tubes. Abdominal pain, painful periods, constipation, diarrhea, infertility, bloating, and experiencing pain while passing urine and stool, etc., are some of the symptoms.

But, the symptoms of Endometriosis can vary. While some women are badly affected, there are others who may not have any noticeable symptoms. The lack of symptoms is one of the major reasons why several women across the globe continue to suffer unaware. And cases that have noticeable symptoms often get treated for a different cause of pain altogether.

Vague and overlapping symptoms make early diagnosis and treatment difficult. As a result, millions of women continue to live in severe pain and debilitation, unable to manage even daily activities.

At present, there are about 25 million cases in India. Sadly, there is no cure for Endometriosis, but there are treatments that can help ease the symptoms.

The only way to diagnose the disease is through a laparoscopy. But to date, there are several gynecologists who do not have the required training to treat this disease. Both the lack of research and the reluctance to discuss has added to women’s troubles.
