Dr. Anand, mourning the death of his wife during childbirth, helps Ratna, a woman who lost her husband and child on the same day in the hospital, by giving her his new born son. Four years later, Dr. Anand re-enters Ratna's life to visit his son and soon becomes a frequent visitor, angering Ratna's in-laws, who are concerned about her alleged closeness with Anand. Soon Anand gets married to Maya, a devious and spendthrift nurse. When Anand's dad passes away, he leaves considerable wealth to Anand's child which tempts Maya and she decides to spill the beans to inherit the wealth.
