Synopsis

The 6th Episode of GOLDEN CLASSICS re-visits Raj Khosla’s dacoit drama MERA GAON MERA DESH, the 2nd highest grossing film of 1971. Featuring Dharmendra, Asha Parekh, Vinod Khanna and Laxmi Chhaya, the film had super-hit songs written by Anand Bakshi and composed by Laxmikant Pyarelal. In fact, Vinod Khanna owed his stardom to this film. It was the genius of Raj Khosla who could blend all the emotions like drama, action, romance and comedy in the film, extract extraordinary performances from his actors and also give equal weightage to its music and the song picturisations which had always been his forte. Who can forget gems like ‘ Kuch Kehta Hai Ye Sawan’, ‘Sona Lai Jaa Re’ or the iconic dance number ‘Maar Diya Jaaye Ke Chhod Diya Jaaye’ ? MERA GAON MERA DESH was a major source of inspiration for SHOLAY, a fact that was never acknowledged by Salim Javed.
