Prankster Kalpana (Rekha) has a penchant for lying. Despite receiving repeated warnings from her brother Kamal (Amol Palekar), Kaplana doesn't change. Meanwhile, Kamal is in love with his neighbour. Kalpana's sister, Alpana (Prema Narayan) is in love with another man but her mother arranges her marriage with Dr. Anil Gupta (Raj Babbar). To save her sister from the marriage, Kalpana lies to her mother about Dr. Gupta being characterless. As a result, the marriage gets cancelled but later, Kalpana ends up falling in love with Dr. Gupta. Watch what happens when Kalpana's seemingly harmless lies spiral out of control and cause mayhem in the family.
