Asha (Nutan) is in love with Raj Kumar (Rajendra Kumar), but her father forces her to marry Gopal Chopra (Dr. Shreeram Lagoo). After living years in a marital bliss, Gopal discovers that he has lung cancer and hides this fact from his three daughters and wife Asha (Nutan) to spare them of the agony. In the attepmts of hiding his illness, he gets transferred to Mumbai for work. After his departure, his youngest daughter befriends their new neighbour, who happens to be Asha's long lost love: Raj Kumar. Now, years later, Asha and Raj Kumar reunite in the most unlikely ways. Will Raj Kumar's arrival spell doom for the Chopra family?
