Shanti gets married to Kewal on the eve of the India- Pakistan Parition. Both the families shift to Delhi from Lahore. However, Shanti is left behind, and has to reluctantly share a room with Abdul Rehman. Five years later, when she returns with her son to India, she receives a warm welcome from her husband but he disowns the child, who now identifies himself as Anwar, and claims his father to be Abdul Rehman. Her own father reluctantly refutes her shelter at his place, though the truth remains that she hadn't even seen Abdul Rehman’s face during her stay at his place. An outlaw, Chhalia saves her when she tries to kill herself and over a period of time, falls in love with her. Rehman comes to Delhi to settle some old scores with Chhalia and tell him that he would kidnap Shanti. The fight ends in an agreement between enemies to stop fighting. Chhalia reunites the estranged couple, while Rehman gets reunited with his sister at the end.
