After a few year’s struggle and some small banner films, Manoj Kumar tasted success with Vijay Bhatt’s “Hariyali Aur Rasta”. His career and life, both took a turn when he acted in ‘Shaheed”. He won accolades for his performance in the role of Shaheed Bhagat Singh. Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri was so impressed with his act that he asked him to make a film on his famous slogan “Jai Jawan Jai Kisan” which sowed the seeds for Manoj Kumar’s ‘Upkar”. Then there was no looking back for the actor cum filmmaker. Manoj Kumar made several blockbusters like “Purab Aur Pacchim”, “Shor”, “Roti Kapda Aur Makaan” and “Kranti” with patriotism and social messages at its core.
