Synopsis
Mithun Chakraborty, the mere name brings forth images of a National award winning actor who also excelled in disco dancing and martial arts; is a successful hotelier; has been the highest tax payer for years besides owning a cricket team and now is a successful politician too. But the struggle that went behind the success is unimaginable. Right from facing biases for his dark-complexioned dusky looks to his Bengali accent, Mithun Chakraborty’s is one success story that needs to be told. Born in a middle class Bengali family in Calcutta, Mithun was a good student who was equally good at extra-curricular activities and sports, especially football. His extrovert nature and leadership skills pushed him into the Naxalite fold unfortunately. When better sense prevailed, he left Calcutta for Bombay and finally went to FTII, Pune for an acting course. He became an actor by compulsion and not by ambition. He was fortunate to bag the National award winning role in Mrinal Sen’s ‘Mrigaya’ but his struggle didn’t end there. He was yet a few years away from real stardom which he achieved with ‘Disco Dancer’, but more about it in Mithun Chakraborty Part 2. Watch this episode and stay tuned for the next part.
