Synopsis
Neetu Singh symbolizes the attitudes and aspirations of the 1970s’ teenagers. She also represents the rare breed of talented child artistes who rapidly grew into successful film stars. Born as Harneet Kaur into a Sikh family, she began her career in films as Baby Sonia and became an overnight child star winning hearts with her cute performances in several films. Neetu (Baby Sonia) made her debut as Neetu Singh in ‘Rickshawala’ (1973) opposite Randhir Kapoor when she was in the ninth standard. She soon created waves with “Lekar Hum Deewana Dil” in ‘Yaadon Ki Baraat’ and mastered the art of leaving her mark in the hero dominated multi-starrers of 1970s. When Rishi Kapoor’s ‘Bobby’ (Dimple Kapadia) married Rajesh Khanna, he was left searching for a young co-star who would make a good pair with him. Neetu fit the bill perfectly and the result was ‘Zehreela Insaan’, ‘Khel Khel Mein’, ‘Rafoo Chakkar’ and ‘Zinda Dil’. Interestingly, Neetu had visited RK Studios earlier for ‘Bobby’ but had lost out to Dimple Kapadia. Maybe, she was destined for a bigger role in Rishi Kapoor’s life. With ‘Deewaar’ opposite Shashi Kapoor also in her kitty, Neetu soon became a star heroine to contend with. Besides showcasing her adorable celluloid moments, RJ Adaa also narrates the initial journey of the bubbly and adorable teenage sensation in Screen Legends Neetu Singh Part 1.
