Raaj Kumar came into the limelight after playing Nargis’ husband in the iconic film ‘Mother India’ (1957). He soon formed a successful pair in the 1960s with Meena Kumari and Mala Sinha and gave several hits. But the film that changed his image and accorded him the larger-than-life personality was Yash Chopra directed ‘Waqt’ (1965). He stood his ground in the multi-starrer and his dialogues became a rage everywhere.
Raaj Kumar did many love-triangles and multi-starrers after ‘Waqt’ but the audience went to see Raaj Kumar and hear his dialogues, often pre-fixed with his trademark ‘Jaani’. They loved his eccentricities that defined the several characters he played. A heroine-oriented film like ‘Pakeezah’ is also remembered for his famous dialogue ‘Aapke paanv dekhe, bahut haseen hain, inhe zameen par mat utariyega, maile ho jayenge’.
Even after he shifted to character roles from the mid-70s, the focus stayed on him. SCREEN LEGENDS – Raaj Kumar Part 2 highlights his journey from his stardom days till his death in 1996 and treats one with his brilliant scenes from films like ‘Kaajal’, ‘Neel Kamal’, ‘Mere Huzoor’ and ‘Dharam Kanta’.
