Rakhee was born on 15th August 1947, India’s independence day in Ranaghat, West Bengal. And true to her birth date, Rakhee has always lived independently on her own terms. She had an arranged marriage with Bengali film maker Ajoy Biswas while she was still in her teens and had the courage to walk out of wedlock at 18, when the marriage didn’t seem working. She tried her luck in Bengali films and soon came into limelight after signing Rajshri Productions’ “Jeevan Mrityu” opposite Dharmendra. She had no reservations of appearing as a widow in most part of the film and played her character convincingly. Rakhee’s strength always lied in playing her characters subtly with less dialogues and conveying a lot with her eyes capable of expressing a myriad emotions. The hazel eyed beauty with a clear complexion and a unique voice achieved stardom in 1971 with a double role in “Sharmilee”. After Sharmila Tagore, Rakhee came to be known as the second Bengal Tigress who achieved great success in Hindi films. SCREEN LEGENDS Rakhee Part 1 covers the initial phase of her entry & success in Bollywood and also features movie clips & scenes from her memorable films.
