Synopsis
On the occasion of International Women’s Day, ‘Screen Legends’ is back with a special episode to honour and celebrate Shabana Azmi, one of our finest actresses and a pioneer of strong, influential women characters in films. Known to represent ‘the face of feminism’ in modern India, Shabana Azmi is the only actress to have won five National Awards for Best Actress along with five Filmfare awards. Shabana’s sense of values has much to do with her childhood and upbringing offered by her father, eminent poet and writer, Kaifi Azmi and her mother, actress Shaukat Azmi. Blessed with multi-dimensional talent, Shabana was drawn to acting during her college days and joined FTII, Pune for an acting course where she secured the Gold medal. Her first film to be released was ‘Ankur’ (1974) directed by Shyam Benegal. But was she the first choice for the film? Who was her inspiration to join FTII? Shabana was also the first actress to strike a proper balance between mainstream commercial cinema and realistic off-beat art films. How did she manage to achieve this difficult feat? Watch Screen Legends SHABANA AZMI Part 1 to know these answers as Shabana Ji herself appears in the episode to narrate a few incidents while RJ Adaa takes you through the initial years of the legendary actress’ life and career and treats you with her amazing scenes. Part 2 and Part 3 will follow soon.
