Stylish, flamboyant and graceful, Shashi Kapoor was India’s first crossover actor who did several international projects at the beginning of his career. He was the busiest actor of Hindi cinema throughout the 1970s with several solo hero hits to his credit. Yet, he never felt insecure of working in multi-hero projects and did several such films giving a distinct edge to his characters. In fact, he did more than 10 films with Amitabh and their pairing together was a sure shot formula for hit films as was evident in “Deewaar”, “Trishul”, “Kabhi Kabhie”, “Suhaag”, “Kaala Patthar”, “Namak Halal” etc. Shashi Kapoor established his own banner Film-Valas to produce the kind of films he believed in. He fulfilled his father Prithviraj Kapoor’s dream by building Prithvi Theatres in Mumbai which continues to be a hub of creative minds and experimental art forms till date. Shashi Kapoor was completely shattered when he lost his wife Jennifer to cancer in 1984. Jennifer had been the anchor of his life and he could never be the same again without her.
