Synopsis

Born in a ‘filmi’ family with mother Shobhana Samarth and sister Nutan as popular actresses, Tanuja had a difficult legacy to follow. But the unconventional, vivacious, bold and beautiful Tanuja soon created her own niche with her unusual talent and flair for natural acting. Not very ambitious from the beginning, she refused to conform to established norms and preferred living her life on her own terms. And yet she became one of the prominent heroines from the early 1960s to mid-70s. Tanuja decided to take a break after marrying film producer Shomu Mukherjee and daughter Kajol’s birth in 1974. She returned as a character artiste after the birth of her second daughter Tanisha and did several conventional as well as off-beat roles. She also made a mark in regional cinema, especially Bengali films besides a few Marathi and Gujarati films. Tanuja deserved much more in terms of films and roles but she largely remained an under-rated actress. Yet, she practically shone in every film she did, solely on the basis of her extraordinary talent. SCREEN LEGENDS : TANUJA celebrates the veteran actress who is also popular among the younger generation as Kajol’s mother. And why not, Kajol’s signature style and mannerisms reminds one so much of Tanuja’s own screen personality. Credits :- Produced By :- Shemaroo Entertainment Ltd.
