Synopsis

Zeenat Aman is the original ‘oomph’ girl of Bollywood who brought the western heroine look to Hindi cinema. Armed with a Miss Asia-Pacific title and modeling experience, she stepped into the films with a bold new avatar and changed the perception of a stereotyped Hindi film heroine. Speaking with an anglicized accent, the tall and sultry Zeenat widened the scope for heroines by doing unconventional roles with grey shades. Zeenat was born to a Muslim father and a Hindu mother. Her father Amanullah Khan was one of the writers for ‘Mughal-E-Azam’. Zeenat gave films a try when O.P. Ralhan offered her a role in ‘Hulchul’ which further led to Dev Anand’s ‘Hare Rama Hare Krishna’. And then there was no looking back for the girl who hypnotized the nation with ‘Dum Maaro Dum’. Zeenat Aman was here to stay paving the way for several other actresses with a western outlook like Parveen Babi. SCREEN LEGENDS – Zeenat Aman Part 1 celebrates the sensation created by her in the early 1970s which was nothing short of a mini-revolution.
