Golden Classics : Ep 25 | Tridev

Episode 25 of GOLDEN CLASSICS revisits the 1989 explosive blockbuster TRIDEV, directed by Rajiv Rai. A defining action entertainer of its era, ‘Tridev’ blended high-voltage drama, stylized storytelling and chartbuster music to create a film that became a cultural phenomenon. ‘Tridev’ brought together an iconic trio - Sunny Deol, Jackie Shroff and Naseeruddin Shah, each representing a different shade of heroism, united in their mission to fight the evil ‘Bhujang’ played by Amrish Puri. Madhuri Dixit, Sonam and Sangeeta Bijlani played the 3 leading ladies. One of the film’s most pathbreaking contributions was Kalyanji–Anandji’s music. ‘Tridev’ marked a turning point in Hindi film sound with the dynamic involvement of Viju Shah whose innovative use of electronic arrangements and synthesizers gave the soundtrack a modern, pulsating feel, revolutionising mainstream Bollywood music for the coming decades. The chartbursting music of ‘Tridev’ remains relevant even today, continuing to find resonance with newer generations and contemporary cinema like ‘Dhurandhar 2’. ‘Tridev’ is the perfect tribute for our milestone 25th episode of GOLDEN CLASSICS. Golden Classics Ep 24| Dil Deke Dekho |Tumsa Nahin Dekha

Episode 24 of GOLDEN CLASSICS brings a delightful double dhamaka for lovers of classic Hindi cinema, revisiting two vibrant musical hits that helped define the youthful, romantic spirit of the late 1950s — DIL DEKE DEKHO (1959) and TUMSA NAHIN DEKHA (1957). Released two years apart and both directed by Nasir Hussain, these films played a pivotal role in shaping the breezy, music-driven entertainer that later became a hallmark of his filmmaking style. At the centre of both films was the charismatic presence of Shammi Kapoor, whose infectious energy, flamboyant style and rebellious charm transformed the image of the Hindi film hero and created a new youth icon for the era. TUMSA NAHIN DEKHA (1957) marked a major turning point in Shammi Kapoor’s career. Paired opposite Ameeta, the film’s engaging romance, light-hearted storytelling and the unforgettable music of O.P. Nayyar set the template for a new kind of musical entertainer. Two years later came DIL DEKE DEKHO (1959), which further cemented Shammi Kapoor’s image as Hindi cinema’s original rock-and-roll star. The film also introduced Asha Parekh as a leading lady and featured the electrifying music of another debutante, Usha Khanna, still considered as the most successful woman music-director of Hindi films. Episode 24 of GOLDEN CLASSICS celebrates the moments when youthful romance and infectious music reshaped the sound and style of Hindi film entertainment. Golden Classics |Ep 23| Vidhaata

Golden Classics |Ep 23| Vidhaata

Episode 23 of GOLDEN CLASSICS revisits VIDHAATA, directed by Subhash Ghai and released in 1982. VIDHAATA stood out as an ambitious multi-starrer that blended crime, destiny and generational conflict into a sweeping cinematic canvas. VIDHAATA is remembered not just for its scale and storytelling, but also for its remarkable ensemble casting. Director Subhash Ghai envisioned the film as a bridge between generations, and bringing together Dilip Kumar, Shammi Kapoor and Sanjeev Kumar —three giants, each symbolising a different era of Hindi cinema, sharing screen space in a single narrative while Sanjay Dutt, Padmini Kolhapure and Amrish Puri lent able support to them. Music has always played a significant role in every Subhash Ghai film and VIDHAATA was no exception. Composed by Kalyanji–Anandji, with lyrics by Anand Bakshi, the soundtrack ranged from poignant melodies to emotionally charged numbers like ‘Haathon Ki Chand Lakeeron Ka”, ‘Udi Baba’, ‘Pyar Ka Imtihaan’ and of course ‘Saat Saheliyan’ which hit the headlines for all the wrong reasons. VIDHAATA went on to become the highest box-office grosser of 1982 and that makes Episode 23 of GOLDEN CLASSICS a compelling and essential watch. Credits :- Produced By :- Shemaroo Entertainment Ltd. Golden Classics Ep 22 - Jawani Diwani

Ep 22 of GOLDEN CLASSICS revisits JAWANI DIWANI, directed by Narendra Bedi and produced by Ramesh Behl. It was released in 1972 at a time when Hindi cinema was slowly moving from the classical romantic mould of the 1960s into the more youthful, western-influenced narratives of the 1970s. It’s music, composed by R.D. Burman, with lyrics by Anand Bakshi became one of the defining elements of the film’s popularity. Featuring Randhir Kapoor, Jaya Bhaduri, Balraj Sahni, and Nirupa Roy, the film revolves around college romance, campus flirtations and musical interludes vis-à-vis class conflicts, parental authority and independence of the youth. Golden Classics Ep 15 - Teen Devian

Golden Classics Ep 15 - Teen Devian

Ep 15 of GOLDEN CLASSICS revisits an unconventional, much-ahead-of-its-time film - TEEN DEVIAN. This Dev Anand film was considered too modern on its release in 1965, though its songs had already become chartbusters. The film revolves around Dev Anand who falls in love with 3 girls simultaneously and cannot make up his mind about who could be his perfect life partner. Nanda, Simi and Kalpana play the ‘Teen Devian,’ who also fall in love with Dev. The Climax of this B and W was shot in Colour as it forms the crux of the film where Dev is able to take a decision. Burman and penned by Majrooh Sultanpuri sound so fresh even today. ‘Teen Devian’ is one of the unexplored gems of Hindi Cinema which could be a subject of very interesting discussion. Golden Classics Ep 12 - Khuda Gawah

Golden Classics Ep 12 - Khuda Gawah

KHUDA GAWAH seemed more like a Clash of the Titans as it featured the larger-than-life persona of Amitabh Bachchan with the ruling empress Sridevi. And to sign Sri for the movie, the Big B along with the producers had to make several concessions including offering her a double role in a Bachchan-led film! But it was all worth it as both Bachchan and Sri created pure celluloid magic against the backdrop of the rugged and mountainous terrain of Afghanistan. Being the 3rd highest grosser of 1992, KHUDA GAWAH was shot on a lavish scale by director Mukul Anand and was the first Indian film to use Surround sound, thus enhancing the overall production value of the film. Golden Classics EP 07 - Sachaa Jhutha | Roti

Golden Classics EP 07 - Sachaa Jhutha | Roti

We usually associate Manmohan Desai, the king of ‘Masala’ movies with the lost and found multi-starrers, made between mid-70s and late 80s. But he directed several blockbuster hits across genres in the early 70s also. Two of such hits were SACHAA JHUTHA (1970) and ROTI (1974), both of which starred the hit pair of the day, viz. Rajesh Khanna and Mumtaz. So it’s a ‘Double Dhamaka’ celebration in the 7th Episode of Golden Classics as we re-visit ‘Sachaa Jhutha’ and ‘Roti’. Both films were directed with great panache by Desai and had very interesting storylines. In fact, ‘Sachaa Jhutha’ was a major source of inspiration for Amitabh Bachchan’s ‘Don’. Both ‘Sachaa Jhutha’ and ‘Roti’ had great music with several songs ruling the charts. While Kalyanji Anandji scored 5 hits for ‘Sachaa Jhutha’, Laxmikant Pyarelal did wonders with ‘Roti’. Who can forget the evergreen melodies like ‘Meri Pyari Behaniya’, ‘Yun Hi Tum Mujhse Pyar Karti Ho’, ‘Naach Meri Bulbul’, ‘Ye Jo Public Hai’ or ‘Gore Rang Pe Na Itna Guman Kar’.
