Synopsis

If one were to compile a list of the best comedy films of Hindi Cinema, CHALTI KA NAAM GAADI is sure to feature in its top 10. The Black and White film made in 1958 is still so fresh and relevant that it elicits non-stop laughter even today with its innocent and slap-stick humour, devoid of any crudity or vulgarity. The film starring the 3 Ganguly brothers – Ashok Kumar, Anoop Kumar and Kishore Kumar was designed as a flop to show income tax losses. Ironically, it turned out to be the 2nd highest grossing film of 1958. It also featured beautiful Madhubala in a prominent and modern ‘avatar’ and her presence contributed immensely to the film’s success. Another major highlights of the film are Majrooh Sultanpuri’s lyrics and S.D.Burman’s music which don’t fail to lift up one’s spirits. Episode 10 of GOLDEN CLASSICS is dedicated to the laugh-riot CHALTI KA NAAM GAADI and is filled with loads of trivia, stories, scene clips and of course its songs including the one that was deleted from the film.
