Synopsis
Episode 27 of GOLDEN CLASSICS revisits the 1982 romantic musical YEH VAADA RAHA, a film that has steadily grown in stature over the decades to attain cult and iconic status among lovers of classic Hindi cinema. Inspired by Danielle Steel's bestselling novel ‘The Promise’, the film was considered far ahead of its time for Indian audiences. Featuring Rishi Kapoor, Poonam Dhillon and Tina Munim in pivotal roles, it was Bollywood's first attempt to deal with facial reconstruction and identity change, a theme that was not fully embraced by audiences upon its release. It has since been appreciated highly by viewers who discovered the film later through television and home video. The film's greatest strengths is its magnificent soundtrack by R. D. Burman comprising 6 melodious songs beautifully rendered by Kishore Kumar and Asha Bhosle. The title track “Tu Tu Hai Wahi” remains one of the most celebrated romantic duets of its era that has found new generations of admirers through contemporary adaptations, numerous remixes and recreations over the years. Episode 27 of GOLDEN CLASSICS celebrates YEH VAADA RAHA as a classic example of a film that was perhaps misunderstood in its own time but appreciated far more by later generations for its bold concept, emotional sincerity and of course, its timeless music!
