Synopsis
Episode 23 of GOLDEN CLASSICS revisits VIDHAATA, directed by Subhash Ghai and released in 1982. VIDHAATA stood out as an ambitious multi-starrer that blended crime, destiny and generational conflict into a sweeping cinematic canvas. VIDHAATA is remembered not just for its scale and storytelling, but also for its remarkable ensemble casting. Director Subhash Ghai envisioned the film as a bridge between generations, and bringing together Dilip Kumar, Shammi Kapoor and Sanjeev Kumar —three giants, each symbolising a different era of Hindi cinema, sharing screen space in a single narrative while Sanjay Dutt, Padmini Kolhapure and Amrish Puri lent able support to them. Music has always played a significant role in every Subhash Ghai film and VIDHAATA was no exception. Composed by Kalyanji–Anandji, with lyrics by Anand Bakshi, the soundtrack ranged from poignant melodies to emotionally charged numbers like ‘Haathon Ki Chand Lakeeron Ka”, ‘Udi Baba’, ‘Pyar Ka Imtihaan’ and of course ‘Saat Saheliyan’ which hit the headlines for all the wrong reasons. VIDHAATA went on to become the highest box-office grosser of 1982 and that makes Episode 23 of GOLDEN CLASSICS a compelling and essential watch. Credits :- Produced By :- Shemaroo Entertainment Ltd.
